OrielOS stands on the work of many free and open-source projects. Thank you to everyone who makes them.

The projects OrielOS is built on

  • Fedora: the base system and its packages. Licences vary by package, mostly the free licences Fedora lists.
  • bootc: image-based updates, which install OrielOS as one image with a way back to the previous version. Apache-2.0 or MIT.
  • KDE Plasma: the desktop, under OrielOS’s taskbar, Start and look. Mainly GPL-2.0-or-later and LGPL-2.1-or-later.
  • Universal Blue: the NVIDIA driver modules, signed for Secure Boot, and tools for building the image. Apache-2.0.
  • NVIDIA’s driver: the graphics driver for NVIDIA RTX cards. A proprietary user-space driver, with open kernel modules under MIT and GPL-2.0.
  • Flathub: the apps in the Store. Each app has its own licence.
  • Proton: Valve’s compatibility layer, which runs Windows games on Linux. BSD-3-Clause, plus its components’ licences.
  • GE-Proton: a build of Proton with extra fixes, OrielOS’s default for Windows games. BSD-3-Clause, plus its components’ licences.
  • Wine: runs Windows programs, underneath Proton. LGPL-2.1-or-later.
  • DXVK: translates Direct3D 8 to 11 into Vulkan for games. zlib.
  • VKD3D-Proton: translates Direct3D 12 into Vulkan for games. LGPL-2.1-or-later.
  • Firefox: the web browser, there from the first start. MPL-2.0.

The SVG files contain the letter shapes as outlines rather than the fonts themselves. The OFL allows this, and no font file is shipped from this folder.

From other projects

These are installed with OrielOS's own files but come from the projects named. OrielOS doesn't change them.

The system's icons, cursors, sounds and fonts

OrielOS uses these themes from Fedora's packages as they are, with no files of its own in them. The icon theme is KDE's own Breeze, so there is nothing of unclear origin to replace.
